Arthritis Care have been delivering free self management courses in the UK since 1996 and have a great amount of experience and expertise in this area.
What do these courses offer?
They offer a sense of encouragement and control over ones illness by giving them the opportunity to meet with others who have similar conditions, share experiences and to learn coping strategies.
With 8-12 participants and 2 tutors who have personal experience of living with chronic conditions you will go over subjects including; effective communication, understanding pain and other symptoms, activities and exercise and managing change over a 6 week course.
While attendance to all sessions would be ideal, it is stressed that the participant has full choice of the sessions they attend as the focus is on their individual needs and the modules they feel are most suitable for them.
Who are they for?
These courses are for anyone experiencing chronic conditions; including but not limited to arthiritis. People of varying chronic conditions will often face a large number of similar problems therefore there are a wide range of universal and more specific things that those with chronic conditions have learnt helps them.
